Privacy Policy
The short version: Hook Fight has no account, no ads and no tracking, and we never sell data. Your progress stays on your iPhone. The only thing that ever leaves your phone is an optional, anonymous summary of each fishing trip, which you can turn off at any time.
Who we are
Hook Fight is made by Great View Labs ("GVL", "we", "us"), based in New York, USA. Questions about this policy go to support@greatviewlabs.com.
What stays on your iPhone
These are stored only in the app's storage on your device. We never receive them:
- Your progress: rank, goals, fish log, personal bests and trip history
- Your settings: difficulty, sound, haptics, left-handed mode and hints
- The name you type for your catch cards
- A local play log you can export from Settings if you choose to
Deleting the app deletes all of it. Progress isn't backed up to a server, so it doesn't carry over to a new phone unless your device backup restores it.
Optional anonymous play data
To tune how fights feel in future versions, Hook Fight can send one short summary at the end of each fishing trip. It's controlled by Settings → Play data → Share anonymous play data.
- App Store version: off unless you turn it on.
- TestFlight beta builds: on by default. Testers can turn it off anytime.
What a trip summary contains
| Included | Example |
|---|---|
| A random ID created when the app is installed | A string of random characters, not tied to you, your device's hardware or your Apple ID |
| App build, device model and iOS version | Build 8, iPhone, iOS 18.1 |
| Game settings and progress | Lake, difficulty, time of day, rank |
| What happened on the trip | Fish landed, species, weights, fight lengths, tension levels, snapped lines, escapes, hook-set timing |
What it never contains
Your name or catch-card name, Apple ID, email, phone number, contacts, photos, location or advertising identifier.
How it's sent and stored
Summaries are stored in Apple's CloudKit service under our developer account. Uploading requires you to be signed in to iCloud. Apple attaches its own app-specific iCloud identifier to each record. That identifier is not your Apple ID, name or email, and we can't use it to find out who you are. Apple's handling is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
How we use it
Only to understand difficulty and balance, and to adjust them in future app updates. The game never changes itself based on your results; difficulty only changes through the slider you control. We don't use this data for advertising, we don't combine it with other data, and we don't sell or share it.
How long we keep it
We keep trip summaries only as long as they're useful for tuning the game, then delete them. Because summaries don't identify you, we can't look up yours individually. Turning the setting off stops all future summaries immediately.
Photos
If you tap Save on a catch card, iOS asks for permission to add images to your photo library. Hook Fight can only save its own catch cards there. It can't see or read your existing photos.
Sharing
When you tap Share, the standard iOS share sheet opens and the catch-card image goes only where you send it. We don't see what you share or with whom.
Purchases
If Hook Fight offers optional purchases, Apple processes them. We never receive your payment details. Apple tells us only that a purchase happened so the app can unlock content.
What we don't do
- No ads and no ad networks
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no advertising identifier
- No third-party analytics or SDKs in the app
- No selling or renting of any data
Children
Hook Fight is suitable for all ages. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The optional trip summary contains no personal information.
This website
hookfight.com is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver and secure the site. The site sets no cookies and uses no advertising or tracking.
Your choices and rights
You can stop all data leaving your phone by turning off Share anonymous play data, and you can remove everything stored on your phone by deleting the app. Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU or the UK), you may have rights to access or delete personal information. Hook Fight is designed not to collect any, but you're welcome to contact us with any request.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change affects what data leaves your phone, we'll also mention it in the app's release notes.
